External Hard Drive Review
It was extremely difficult to connect the hard drive and make it fit inside the case, but once that was done it was easy enough to use. The hard drive uses a USB connector and works a similar lead to a USB stick. There are no drivers to install, and Windows XP picks up the hard drive and installs it for you automatically — with absolutely no effort on your part.
It works like a normal hard drive, and I found no speed or power restrictions with it. In fact I would venture to say that it outperforms the 80 gig sata hard drive installed on my computer currently.
But the best bit is, I can disconnect the hard drive and move it with me, whereas before I would be unscrewing the back of computer cases and kneeling on the floor. One does not truly appreciate how much easier this is until you actually do it. Sure, it requires that a power plug be nearby, but this is a small inconvenience in relation to huge benefits.
I use the external hard drive to back up my most important files very successfully. Because the hard drive is not the native disc of the computer, it does not get infected with viruses and is not prone to corruption from the operating system. It has been storing my important documents for well over two years and has never failed once.
As far as buying a new external hard drive goes, I would recommend getting a Seagate or Maxtor hard drive. I have had problems with Western Digital in the past, and would not recommend them. As far as size goes I would recommend getting at least a 120 Gig Drive, so you can store all your music and movies and not have to worry about space. ……
