Some FAQ :

What kind of warranty do I get with these modems? : These modems have been unlocked so you can use them with any 3G network worldwide. This is great for those who travel , or who want to change networks ( such as from MTN to Vodacom ) on a whim , but the modification voids the warranty. However , We give you a 100% refund Guarantee that the modem will work on arrival. The modem is pretty indestructible unless you wet it or burn it. I have stood on them , sat on them , dropped them and they still work ;-).

Why are these modems cheaper than in a typical Vodacom shop? – What’s the catch? : The modems are about 30-40% cheaper than in the shops. Our price is reasonable , but not cheap. We’re offering them to you at the price they should be sold at. Vodacom is way overcharging for them – and we take advantage of this by undercutting them – resulting in a win – win situation for us and for you.

Can I Pickup the modem from you? I’m also in Durban! : Sure – just arrange a pickup time with us ( 0848517229 ) and we’ll send someone round. No direct pickups are allowed. You are welcome to pay COD

Google Chrome was launched yesterday and I had some spare time– so I downloaded it and had a poke around. Google claims that this browser is faster, more secure and will establish a “base” for all Internet applications to run on. The browser is open source, boasts a new JavaScript engine and many improvements to the user interface typically found on browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Ultimately, I think Google built this browser for many of their own reasons that they do not punt in their media releases.:

Google is drawing closer and closer to the limit of what they can do when it comes to building applications for a web browser. As applications such as Gmail , Google docs and Google apps get more and more advanced in the pursuit of competing with their desktop software counterparts, they will need a more advanced flexible framework to operate under.

Google’s drive of “indexing the world’s information” has hit somewhat of a brick wall. They’ve indexed just about everything except information derived from user behaviour. One of the ways to gather information about user behaviour is to build a browser that tracks it. Now, integrated with the other solutions that Google provides, this information can be used to produce better search results, better spam filtering and more user centric applications.

The fact that Google did not previously own the foundation upon which its business relied was a threat to its sustainability. Google established relations with Mozilla but this only reduced the risk marginally. In order to secure the future of its business, Google backward integrated into the browser market.

Taking a look at the actual browser, I find that it is in fact faster — especially with any site involving JavaScript like Facebook , Youtube and others. It has a more instantaneous feel to it, rather than the “click and load” type usually experienced by the browsers. It has a couple of the other useful features — like a list of your most recently visited sites appearing when you open a new tab, an integrated search and URL bar , and a much more skeletonized user interface.

The content inside the browser really comes out at you, without the bulk of menus, toolbars and the like. Like most demons bent on destruction, I actually tried to crash the browser, trip it up and slow it down. I failed miserably in this regard. Google’s new method of running each tab as a separate process meant anything I tried resulted in a “sad face” screen appearing while the rest of the browser carried on its merry way.

I use a couple of applications where the browser automatically has to reload itself every few seconds, and certainly in IE and Firefox this created the problem where the whole browser was unusable until these processes had finished. Now, with Google Chrome , I can carry on working in another tab with out opening a whole new browser window.

Google chrome is currently in beta, and a lot of the plug-ins that I use with Internet Explorer and Firefox are not compatible yet. Unfortunately, plug-ins such as Roboform and the Webmaster plug-in are essential to me. I will move over to using Google chrome completely when these applications become available.

“There’s something in the air” read the banners outside the convention
center where the Macworld Expo 2008 was to be held.

Fans of the Apple computer company were interested in what this catchphrase meant, and patiently waited for the Apple keynote speech, delivered by Steve Jobs on January 15, 2008.

When the speech began, Apple introduced the new time capsule, updates
for the Iphone and the Ipod touch, and the announcement of movie rentals
available through Itunes.

Steve left the stage after that last announcement while someone from Sony was speaking. He returned, nonchalantly, with a manilla envelope, which looked to be empty. What happened next amazed everyone!

Steve opened the envelope and pulled out some silver device! It was the
Macbook Air! This is what was in the air! Apples’s new superthin notebook, the worlds thinnest notebook computer!

This notebook model fits in between the pre-existing Macbook and Macbook
Pro lines, with the base model starting at $1999 US.
This notebook features a 13.3 inch LED backlit widescreen monitor with a
standard resolution of 1280×900, a full-size backlit keyboard and weighs
just 3 pounds.

There are two options for hard drives. First, you can get the standard
hard drive, which holds 80 gigs, which is pretty good for a computer
this thin. But in the upgraded model, you can get a 64 gig SSD or Solid
State Drive. This is a new technology that allows for more information
to be stored within a smaller area and allows your computers CPU to
access the stored information faster.

Every Macbook Air comes with 2gb of onboard RAM. This is a very high
amount for this type of notebook computer.

There are a few problems with the Macbook Air, though. It does not
include an optical drive. There are two options for this - you can either
buy an external Superdrive which apple is offering that was built
especially for the Macbook Air, or you can use Apples new sharing
feature which allows the Macbook Air to share an optical drive with a
preexisting computer.

The next problem is the processor speed. The standard model comes with
an Intel core 2 duo chip with 1.6ghz. The upgraded model comes with the
same chip, but the speed is up to 1.8 GHZ.

These are significant downgrades from the Macbook Pro and even the
standard Macbook line.
The Macbook Air supposedly has 5 hours of battery time, but you will not
be able to get that length of usage with any intense computing.
The Macbook Air uses the same OSX leopard operating system that all
other Macs use, which is the best operating system around.
There is also only 1 USB port on the side of the computer, where the
standard Macbook Pro has 3 USB and 2 Firewire. This could be seen as a
disadvantage to some.

All in all, this would be a great computer for someone who is using it
in conjunction with a pre-existing apple desktop. This is by no means a
desktop replacement. While some of the features sound exciting, this
computer is not that much of a power machine, but more of a fashion
statement.

Sony Playstation 2 review

The Sony PS2 is the industry leading video game console. It was released in the year 2000. Its direct competition is Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, and Microsoft Xbox. It has become all but obsolete with the release of Xbox 360 and PS3. Even though it is outdated, it still has great graphics with great games and allows endless entertainment for the user.

Where you can buy it

The Sony PS2 is available in a few retail stores. As previously stated, the Sony PS2 is becoming outdated, so it is getting harder to find in stores. If you look on the internet and eBay, though, it is quite easy to find one in good condition and it usually comes with a few games.

What it looks like

The PS2 comes in two different models. One is the standard size, which is pretty thick and has a disc tray that slides out. The newer model, appropriately called the PS2 slim, is very compact hand has an upward opening tray. The standard color is a Matte black finish. It is nothing special to look at, but it serves its purpose.

How it works

The PS2 is very simple to use. All you have to do is read the manual and setup will be a breeze. When I installed mine, there were only 4 cables to plug in. You just plug it in, turn your TV to an alternate mode, turn on the console and you are ready to play. All you have to do is insert a game disc and you will be having tons of fun in minutes.

Pros

- Compact machine, blends in with surroundings

- Easy setup

- Easy to use controls with multiple controller support

- Many different games to play

- Console can also be used to play DVD’s

Cons

- Most games require you to buy a memory card

- Graphics are becoming outdated with release of new technology

- Hard to find games for when shopping in a retail store

Games available

Any game that you can think of is available for PS2, if you can find it. Some of my favorites are Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto, Resident Evil, Manhunt and Scarface.

Final Verdict

Personally, I love my PS2. It plays all the games I want to, it is very reliable and has never needed any fixing. While it is becoming outdated, it is still compatible with some great games and will offer hours of fun. I strongly recommend getting your hands on a PS2 and you will see exactly what I am talking about!…..

A Bluetooth headset is a device that allows wireless connections between the headset and a Bluetooth enabled cell phone. Bluetooth headsets are available in a wide range of prices and with a wide variety features.

Why do I need a Bluetooth headset?

A Bluetooth headset makes it easier and more efficient for you to talk on your cell phone while completing other tasks. They are especially important when using a cell phone or while operating an automobile.

Editors Choice Bluetooth headsets

Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth headset

This modern looking headset marries fashion with function. While it is a little difficult to use, the great sound quality and comfort make up for this minor shortcoming.

Motorola HS850 Bluetooth headset

This is a classic looking headset. It has a comfortable fit and looks good when you wear it. It has good sound quality, but it is not great. This is a great headset for a beginning user.

This is a rather new headset. It is very small and stylish. Passerby’s will hardly know you are wearing it. The only problem, though, is that it is only available for Apples new iPhone. If you own that phone, though, than this is exactly what you need.

What should I look for when buying a Bluetooth headset?

1. Is it easy to put on and take off?

This is very important. Your headset must be easy to put on and take off. How ridiculous would you look if it takes you 5 minutes to put on your headset, while messing up your hair.

2. Are the controls easy to use?

The headset must be easy to use. What good is it to you if you cannot use it efficiently?

3. Is the battery easily replaceable?

The battery will eventually run out and need replacing. Most headsets have easily replaceable batteries, but when you buy one, just make sure.

4. How many devices can it connect with?

This one is simple. The more devices your headset can connect to, the better!

Where can I buy a Bluetooth headset?

It is relatively easy to find a place to buy a Bluetooth headset. If you search online, you can find some on Amazon, eBay, or other online electronic retailers. If you want to buy one from a real store though, you can buy them from Wal-Mart, Best Buy and many other retailers.

I never appreciated how useful an external hard drive could be until I purchased one to back data. I had a spare 40 gig hard drive, so I bought an external casing from MAPOWER.

It was extremely difficult to connect the hard drive and make it fit inside the case, but once that was done it was easy enough to use. The hard drive uses a USB connector and works a similar lead to a USB stick. There are no drivers to install, and Windows XP picks up the hard drive and installs it for you automatically — with absolutely no effort on your part.

It works like a normal hard drive, and I found no speed or power restrictions with it. In fact I would venture to say that it outperforms the 80 gig sata hard drive installed on my computer currently.

But the best bit is, I can disconnect the hard drive and move it with me, whereas before I would be unscrewing the back of computer cases and kneeling on the floor. One does not truly appreciate how much easier this is until you actually do it. Sure, it requires that a power plug be nearby, but this is a small inconvenience in relation to huge benefits.

I use the external hard drive to back up my most important files very successfully. Because the hard drive is not the native disc of the computer, it does not get infected with viruses and is not prone to corruption from the operating system. It has been storing my important documents for well over two years and has never failed once.

As far as buying a new external hard drive goes, I would recommend getting a Seagate or Maxtor hard drive. I have had problems with Western Digital in the past, and would not recommend them. As far as size goes I would recommend getting at least a 120 Gig Drive, so you can store all your music and movies and not have to worry about space. ……

At first glance the Nokia 9300 is not an attractive cell phone. It is long, thick and heavy but its sleek design somewhat makes up for it. But do not let the looks deceive you, for the features are rich.

This phone is not for the conventional user, and was designed for the business executive in mind. Since the phone is big and heavy to carry it is not ideal to keep it in your pants pockets. This thing is a monster, and is probably only going to be comfortable in a shirt pocket or spare bag.

The mobile has pretty much all the normal functionality of a Nokia phone, but when you open it up, it becomes all of the personal communication device that Nokia likes to push as.

Features

e-Mail with Attachments

Java Applications

Microsoft office Mobile

Adobe reader

Full QWERTY keyboard

Many others

While this phone may be a complete communications centre, there are a number of annoying little irritations which crop up when trying to use it.

For instance, there is no backlight for the keypad so using the phone at night is difficult. Another problem is that the phone, because of its size, does not have a vibrate feature. Given its target market this is a serious setback.

The phone has a five way conference call feature, however, does not have an inbuilt WebCam, which in my opinion is pretty pointless. In fact, if you want my opinion, going by Apple’s new Iphone…

I am using the new Dragon Naturally Speaking program from Nuance to dictate this review. What this means is, I’m talking through my microphone to the computer and it is writing exactly what I am saying.

This is the brilliant thing about technology. It just keeps getting better. The fact that I can control my computer with nothing but my voice is absolutely amazing. The Dragon Naturally Speaking software has in the past, has been somewhat erratic and error prone.

For instance with each dictated line, I used to have the correct at least two or three words, or often a string of nonsense that the software had put together. Now it seems I can type with my voice fairly efficiently. The new version, Dragon Naturally Speaking 9, is leaps and bounds ahead of the other versions or indeed, any other speech recognition product on the market..

For a start, it has a 99% accuracy rate after just a few minutes of training. I literally installed this program, and after no longer than five minutes of dictating some training material, it is working with around about a 96% accuracy rate.

I purchased the professional version of the software, which comes with a number of other features such as reading from text, transcribing prerecorded voice and integration with a number of popular Windows software programs such as Microsoft word.

I believe that, with this software, technology has entered a new age in terms of speech recognition. For instance, now the disabled and those having problems using the keyboard or mouse to control their computer will be able to effortlessly navigate around their Windows operating system. Often, the speech recognition program does not format or style the text as you wish, and this has to be done manually, but this is a small glitch in an otherwise perfect system.

Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 comes in several versions, including a medical and legal version tailored to the specific professions. However, all the versions run in the same speech engine, so you get the same accuracy with all of them. And the basic version is only $ 99, which renders it in the reach of most computer enthusiasts.

I would definitely recommend getting Dragon naturally speaking 9. At long last, Nuance has developed software which actually works, regardless of your accent or origin. I would give the product a 8/10.

The Sony PSP is a handheld gaming device that is a “breakaway” of sorts from their traditional PS2 console.

Everyone has heard the hype about it, some praising it and some criticizing it, but what is the hype about? The Sony Playstation 3 has caused a lot of hubba , especially from gaming enthusiasts. Even if you are not a gamer - this a a gadget is one you may want to have a tinkle with. The playstation 3 is a piece of equipment that you have to have in your collection - even if its just there to say that you have it.

The console has a funky yet serious look about it. It appeals to all generations due to the widespread number of features on it - whether the intention is just to play, watch movies, listen to music or surf the Internet. However , the most popular feature appears to be the interactive online gaming experience that that console provides.

Features

The game is user friendly with a 60GB hard drive, built in memory card readers, 4 USB ports, Internet access indicator lights, disc loading slot to enjoy your favorite albums and home videos. It is also compatible with your favorite PS1/PS2 titles. This machine also features a touch-sensitive power button. However , the main thing that draws one to the PS3 is the dazzling life like graphics that its engine produces. ( See video below for more details)

The large memory allocation allows one to store movies, and music without worrying about running out of space. Hooking up your Playstation to the inbuilt LAN port allows one to browse the Internet from ones TV …Perfect if you have a large 40 inch plasma…

Cons

Though it?s great to have and a great piece of equipment, the downside of it though is the price. It is a bit on the expensive side and this puts the many teens that bought the PS2 out of the market , which is a curious marketing move form Sony. But I believe it is worth every cent. Another problem though is the amount of heat it generates and the few games available for it.If you are crazy about having the latest and greatest technology, Playstation 3 might just be what you need. It is something to invest on and it yields great value for your money.

Have a look at this short video showing the incredible features of the PS3 when you hook it up to the Internet :
