Mxit - Use it on your Computer - Video Lesson

UPDATE : The method described below still works , but mxit has a new PC version using the Pidgin client here

To use mxit on your computer - you must have the following :

#1. A fast internet line. Any ADSL , 3G , Iburst or Sentech connection will do.

#2 A computer with Windows XP. It may work on other operating systems - I dont know.

Note : The video preloads to about 10% then starts - you wont have to wait till 100%!!…..

Watch the video below to learn how to do it. Click the video to start :

mxit. I discovered that if you logout of mxit using the logout function in the mpowerplayer program. you dont need to keep downloading those files from http://www.mxit.co.za/wap all the time. try it.

MpowerPlayer looks like it sticks but it really doesent.

How long have you waited? On ADSL the bar looks like it sticks - but it is actually downloading in the background. The bar will then jump like 60% all in one go , and then to 100%.

If you are on dialup or ISDN - you will have to wait a while - usually on ADSL it takes 5 minutes so maybe you will have to wait 15 or so…

Hope that helps
Cheers!

Yo Matt

If you tell me the point at which you are stuck - I will be able to help. Are you still stuck at the mpowerplayer download?

Lloyd, I’m sure you’ve seen the other ways that eliminate the time stamp procedure right?

The method I used which worked for me, was just:

1)Use the .jad file that you just downloaded from http://www.mxit.co.za/wap and open it in Notepad.

2)Go to the line that starts “MIDlet-Jar-URL:” and is followed by a url.

3)Copy the url and paste it into your browser, it will prompt you to download a .jar file

4)Put this file in the same directory as your .jad file.

5)Now back in Notepad, look at the url again. It should be pretty much like this: http://ww2.mxit.co.za/wap/client/source/4195495727f67.jar

6)Remove all the words in the url so you are left with just the numbers at the end. It will look like this:

MIDlet-Jar-URL: 4195495727f67.jar

7)Just save the file now and open the .jad file with your emulator, it being mpowerplayer or whatever.

This should work to remove the time stamp so that you do not have to repeatedly download the file over and over again.

:D

Sorry I’m only posting here about 2 months after the last 1 tho :P

Hi Mortican…

Yes - this method works for me…Thanks a heap man!!

I have used it for a while , but wanted to make this easy for technophobes - which means not involving opening up files etc…:P

If you feel like playing with the jar file - do what Mortican has suggested…it makes life a whole lot easier…

Shot Mortican!

Cheers!

Hi I tried opening up the .jar file separately but keep getting “page not found” error, so obviously I’m not being prompted to download anything.

Yip Tami - these things are dodgey…check that you didnt make any errors when you edited the url…

Also - a time stamp that has been activated will cause that error - do all the steps above within about 15 min or so…

If you have any more problems post!
Cheers!

Ok…if you seriously HAVE to have it at work behind a company firewall - go to the guy who usually does your PC’s and ask him to open port 9119 and 5222.

He’ll know what im talking about.

If he does that - it should work.

Anyways - you arent supposed to be on Mxit - youre supoosed to be working!! ;-) :P

Cheers!

can you please tell me how to open these ports lloydlopes

26

Comment by lloydlopes

January 7, 2007 @ 5:55 am

Sure - it will be different for different routers and modems. If you are on dialup - the ports are controlled by your ISP and cant be changed.

If you are on ADSL - your router or modem configuration utility should have settings to allow certain ports.

Im sorry I cant give you more specific information - I will have to know what equipement you are using.

How do you buy moolas on the pc mxit?????

Please HELP

Comment by lloydlopes

July 24, 2007 @ 8:40 am

Moola can only be bought from a cell phone , although , if you do buy it from a cell phone by sending an sms to the number they give you , the moola will appear on your account on mxit on both the pc and the phone , and you can use it on both.
